Story

I am fundraising for Stokenchurch Dog Rescue by walking 100km during the Thames Path Challenge.

My sister Debby Hicks, was the Manager at the Rescue and introduced both my daughter and Myself to Stokenchurch in about 2015 and we have been volunteer dog walkers ever since. During Covid due to the restrictions and not being able to walk we fostered Dexter the beagle, who had undergone spinal surgery and needed time to recover, another failed foster. We obviously adopted him (see pic). We knew how important the fundraising was for Dexters operation so when asked by a friend if i was interested in taking part, i thought it would be an ideal chance to raise some funds. Debby, sadly lost her battle with Cancer in January 2022, she was extremely passionate about the rescue, so this walk is also in honour of her.

We take part in events like these to raise much needed funds for Stokenchurch Dog Rescue. The Rescue is independently funded so it is only kept running by these much needed donations. The Rescue is now 60 years old and has been giving dogs a second chance for all that time. We cannot change the world but for every dog rehomed we are changing their world!

About the charity

Stokenchurch dog rescue was originally formed by local residents in 1963 to save the lives of stray and unwanted dogs. We never destroy a healthy dog, believing that somewhere there is a kind and permanent home for every dog. We also take in and care for the sick, the old and the traumatised.
