Story

Welcome to our just giving page

We will be running the the Cardiff half marathon in memory of Simon's parents Ian and Sandra Watson-Smith and all loved ones affected by cancer, we would also like to raise money for the ward Meurig (located in Bronglais Hospital).

Why are we doing this?

I (Chloe) am running this event for Meurig ward at Bronglais hospital which is an oncology ward. Working within this ward has been an honour for four years and has been an eye opener as to how many oncology emergencies there are, as well as patients presenting into triage within the ward environment. Meurig ward has a close place in our hearts for myself and my family as previous family members have been cared for so wonderfully during their most vulnerable times🤍

I would like to challenge myself to complete this half marathon to support those who receive devastating, life changing news. The ward supports with end of life care, sepsis emergencies, palliative patients and support families during these challenging times.

My aim goal within the ward is to be able to achieve more supportive equipment for young children who have lost a loved one. These can include books relating to grief, teddies, creating memory trees, and other activities which will allow them to express their feelings within the ward or at home whilst dealing with grief.

In my experience (Simon) the ward helped me and my family a lot when firstly Sandra (my mother) had been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer and later metastasised further, the ward staff were very helpful in making her feel comfortable and were very kind to us all in this moment, later on in life Ian also received the news that he had been diagnosed with cancer (non-Hodgkin's lymphoma cancer) the ward once again worked with us getting him in when we can and giving him treatment around the clock.

I would like to run in memory of my parents and for the fantastic work the staff on Meurig do every day not only to people like my parents but to every single person that steps foot on the ward.

Thank you everyone

We are hoping to raise £500 to help towards any costs and needs that might help the ward.

Any donations are welcome and the support is much appreciated !

Love Chlo&Si
