Chloe's Story -
When I was 9 to 12 years old, I had a driver who took me to and from school. He groomed and sexually abused me. He was trusted by my parents and the community. During the 3 years, he gained my trust and I never told anyone what was going on, I was scared and thought it was normal. The abuse ended when I was 12 and I buried what had happened to me for 17 years. It was something I dealt with on my own, but not talking or telling anyone was consuming me and I decided to take control and do something about it. This is where the NSPCC came in. I thought for a long time that the NSPCC were only there to help children and not adults like me. I was so wrong. I decided to call them one morning and I spoke to a wonderful man who helped me so much. He explained that I shouldn't be afraid anymore and that I should tell the police by calling 101. I did just that, I called the police and within an hour they were over taking a statement and just under 3 years later I was in court testifying against a man who had defined who I was for 17 years. He was sentenced to 9 years on Friday 13th of December 2019. A date I will never forget. The NSPCC is so vital to helping children and adults who have been abused rebuild their lives. If it wasn’t for that phone call on that random morning in March, my life would be very different today.
The NSPCC is the leading children's charity fighting to end child abuse in the UK and Channel Islands. They help children who have been abused to rebuild their lives, protect those at risk, and find the best ways of preventing abuse from ever happening.
Every child deserves the best possible chance to rebuild their life after abuse. That’s why they're here. That's what drives their work. And that’s why – as long as there’s abuse – the NSPCC will fight for every childhood.
Thank you for donating to an amazing charity and to help us both take on a huge challenge that we will never forget!
