WHAT IS THIS CHALLENGE ALL ABOUT?
On Sunday 28th May, I am challenging myself to run the Chilterns 3 Peaks, and in the process raise awareness and support for mental health charity, Mind Buckinghamshire.
The 18-mile/28.5km route from Princes Risborough to Ivinghoe Beacon in the Chilterns is usually hiked one way, on predominantly off-road trails, taking people 5-6hrs.
I am aiming to run double the distance out-and-back (36 miles/57 km) in a similar time. I will be recording my effort on the official Fastest Known Time website for others in the future to take on the challenge.
If that wasn’t enough - I will be creating three drawings along the way from the top of each peak to commemorate the challenge and capture my emotions at the time.
The challenge will be a unique test of physical endurance, and mental resilience. But in reality it pales in comparison to what those struggling with their mental health have to go through.
WHY AM I DOING THIS CHALLENGE?
1 in 4 people in the UK suffer with their mental health each year (Mind)
This Challenge whilst a personal one, more importantly champions a bigger message about the benefits of the outdoors and creativity for people’s mental health.
Having dealt with my own struggles with anxiety and depression over the last few years, I relocated to the Chilterns in 2022. This has been a lifeline for me to get outside and embrace a more active lifestyle, which has fuelled my creative endeavours, adventures, and inspired this local based challenge.
The Challenge is a celebration of my local area and natural beauty found within the Chilterns that has inspired me creatively with the Breakfast Adventure Club, and now to dream up and take on this unique challenge. It combines my passion for the outdoors and creativity to share the positive mental health benefits that these can offer us all.
I hopes my efforts will inspire others to seek out their own adventures and creative endeavours.
