Story
Who we are:
We are a group of medical students raising money in aid of Children with Cancer UK. Six of us will be training for and running the London Marathon 2025 in April, and as a wider group we are hoping to run events and take on challenges throughout the coming months to raise awareness for the charity.
What we are doing:
We plan to do set challenges, involving ideas such as being creative at the weekly parkrun (dressing up and more!), a 5k-a-day for a month, a 24 hour spinathon and an open water swim. We also hope to raise money through events such bake sales, playing music in the street and spreading awareness in the nearby hospitals. This will be alongside getting prepped for the big run in April!
Why we are doing it:
Asides from being a group who appreciates a good challenge, we have are aware of the pain that those with cancer and their loved ones can face - which we have seen in our families, friends, and on placement. It's a privilege that we can contribute in any way we can to a cause that funds critical research, supports patients, and brings hope to families.
About the charity:
Children with Cancer UK has funded much needed research into the causes of childhood cancers, and the development of better, kinder treatments as well as funding initiatives that support children and their families through cancer treatment and beyond. Their work has contributed significantly to a marked increase in childhood cancer survival rates and improved quality of life for patients.
