Story
I am taking part in the 60 Miles in June Challenge for Tommy’s who help people who have suffered from miscarriage and baby loss.
Over the last year, I have unfortunately had two miscarriages. The first happened last August when I was 8 weeks pregnant and had to be admitted to hospital for 4 days. The second happened just recently in April, I had my 12 week scan and found out I’d had a ‘missed’ miscarriage. This was particularly traumatic as I had to have a surgical procedure and then admitted overnight due to further complications. Once discharged from hospital on both occasions, we didn’t get any ongoing professional support and have had to navigate through this with the support of friends and family.
Only since I have gone through this, I’ve discovered that unfortunately this happens to so many people, yet it’s not really talked about and I genuinely don’t know why. This is something that really does change you as a person. The one thing that has massively helped me is speaking to people who have gone through similar experiences. That’s why I want to try and be open about my own experiences, so others feel like they have someone to speak to if they need it and vice versa.
Tommy’s are one of the leading charities and have personally helped me, they believe no one should have to endure the heartbreak of miscarriage and are actively trying to campaign for more support after 2 miscarriages, as the NHS will not support you until you’ve had to go through at least 3.
