Story
Get into the festive spirit and deck your door with a lovely handmade Christmas wreath.
All the wreaths are made from foliage that has been scrumped from the countryside. There will be plenty of ribbon, berries and sparkly cones too!!
I also have a new garland for anyone who wants to bring the greenery indoors.
This year I'm raising money for the Embu Rescue Centre in Kenya. The Centre provides a safe place in Embu where around 120 street children can get a daily lunch and breakfast and receive help from caring adult staff and volunteers. This is just the start of helping them get back into education and into small enterprises to make a living. They also run several youth football teams.
The Centre is 100% locally run and designed to meet local needs. The charity operates under the umbrella of the Moving Mountains Trust, based in Northern Ireland. You can read more about the work there on their website: https://www.movingmountainstrust.org/country-projects/kenya/embu-rescue-centre/
I was lucky enough to spend a couple of very enjoyable days there in September, after hiking to the peak of Point Lenana on Mount Kenya. The hike was unforgettable and back down the mountain I had the chance to see a little more of real life in Kenya.
A huge thank you to Kioni and the team who looked after me so well on the mountain. It was unforgettable! And thank you to Gilbert, Lillian and Janet who allowed me to help them cook lunch at the Rescue Centre. There are some great photos here of Lillian in her kitchen: http://www.adventurealternativekenya.com/moving-mountains-kenya
