Story
This year I am running the Edinburgh Half Marathon for The Marfan Trust, a small but very important charity.
Marfan Syndrome is a genetic condition of the connective tissue that can affect the heart, eyes and skeleton and lead to many complications. It is a hugely variable condition and I am very lucky that I have not been particularly affected (minus a hip replacement and my ability to reach high shelves!) so far, but I have seen the huge effect it can have on people's lives whilst at work in the Edinburgh Hospitals.
Running a half marathon is one of the biggest challenges I have ever undertaken, as I'd never have described myself as a runner in my life! Coming back from hip surgery has been a battle over the last few years and I still think I'm a bit crazy for doing it! I am running the Edinburgh Half Marathon partially to prove to myself that I will not be limited by Marfan Syndrome, but also to raise awareness of the condition and hopefully contribute to further research and assistance for those navigating similar journeys.
Any support you could give would be so appreciated and will really spur me along on the 26th May. Thank you!
