Story
My colleagues from Dawlish Community Hospital have planned this Walk from Teignmouth Lifeboat Station to Torquay Lifeboat Station along the South West Coastal Path to raise money for Teignmouth RNLI, in memory of my amazing husband Andy, and I will be joining them tomorrow. Andy served in the Royal Navy for 38 years in the Aircrewman Branch and following his retirement, became one of the volunteer Launch Authorisers for the Teignmouth Lifeboat, a role he was proud of and delivered to a very high standard. He was also the Crew Liaison Officer, again a role he took pride in. Andy died suddenly and unexpectedly in July 2024, so I am keen to meet challenges in order to keep his memory alive, and raise money for a charity close to his heart.
Teignmouth lifeboat station was established in 1851 and remained open for 89 years before the station was closed in 1940 and its lifeboat was withdrawn.
After an absence of 50 years, in 1990 the RNLI reopened with an Atlantic Class Inshore Lifeboat being housed in the original station.
The volunteer lifeboat crew provide a 24-hour search and rescue service 365 days a year, but none of this would be possible without the support of the public and their donations. It costs in the region of £56k a year to run and maintain the service in Teignmouth, all of which comes from the generous donations of the public.
Your donation will help to fund the selfless work of our volunteer lifeboat crew in Teignmouth, by doing so you will be helping to save lives around our coast and will be providing the best equipment possible to ensure the safety of our volunteers.
