On November 5th I will be running the New York Marathon. For the last 8 years I have entered the ballot to no avail, but finally this year was my lucky year! I have trained hard and I am ready to give it my all. This is one of my absolute bucket list races and I am delighted to be heading to the start line.

On a training run a few weeks ago, I was considering which charity to run for. Whilst running through the Swinley Forest I had narrowed it down to 2 and as I often do when I am in a quandary, I looked to the sky to ask my dad for the answer. One of the charities was connected to him and one is a local charity I volunteer at each week.

As I turned the corner, running down a path I had ran, cycled, skipped, walked down for years with family and friends, I saw a sight I had never seen before and he had given me my answer... a herd of cows, grazing on the path without a care in the world, they looked calm, happy and a little bit scruffy, just like him. Thank you dad, The Cowshed it is.

I know every penny raised will be put to very good use. The Cowshed works tirelessly to show love and support to those experiencing hardship in Berkshire. The Cowshed is a charity which provides support to people of all backgrounds in a time of personal crisis. The aim of The Cowshed is to provide good quality cleaned and ironed clothes and other essentials free to anyone in need.

Every Year, The Cowshed helps thousands of children who would not otherwise receive Christmas presents. In 2021 we gave out sacks of gifts and hampers to 2,420 people and in 2022 this number rose to 3,148. As the cost-of-living crisis continues to affect families across our community, we anticipate there being a great need for support again this coming Christmas, and at The Cowshed, we will do our best to ensure that the children in our community do not go without presents.

I thoroughly enjoy my Monday mornings sorting through donations and they are always looking for volunteers to help.
