Story
Like many people have, I lost a good friend to cancer. Will Dias was a great man who influenced me in my formative teenage years and also gave me the courage to persist when times were tough as an adult.
He was only in his 50s when he died and left behind a lovely wife and two terrific sons, as well as family and friends who also miss him dearly.
The way that Will kept positive, despite knowing his fate, inspired me to be more. More brave, more resilient, more grateful and more determined.
In memory of my friend and to support CRUK in helping other wonderful people and their families in their time of need, I intend to cycle from Lands End to John O’Groats.
My solo ride will take in unusual and bawdy place names such as Cocks, Crapstone, Slaparse Lane, Shitterton, Little Sodbury, Bell End, Penistone, Long Lover Lane, Tosside, Ecclefechan, Biggar, Dick Place and Bonar Bridge. The pedalling will not end at John O'Groats, as once I've reached there, I intend to cycle on to Twatt (my finish line via ferry to Orkney).
I'm sure Will would have chuckled at these destinations.
Total distance 1,213 miles.
I am also dedicating my ride to all people, including family and close friends, who have survived cancer or are still living with it, thanks to the work of CRUK.
