Story
So most of you will know I walk with a slight limp. And the reason for that is I suffered with perthes disease in my hip when I was 5 years old. It’s a super rare condition where blood supply to the head of the thigh bone is disrupted which causes the bone to deteriorate. This can cause pain, limping and limited movement of the hip joint. I had an operation when I was 8 where they put a metal plate and screws in my thigh and hip.
I then had both legs in cast to hold my pelvis in place. The hospital gave me a wheel chair but being so small and young I couldn’t use it. So they gave my boogie board with wheels on so I could use my arms to get around. I later used crutches when the cast was off. Playing sport or being active after this was very difficult. Against what doctors advised i decided to become a hairdresser which means being on my feet all day. 20 years on from starting my career I am now the Cycling Coiffeur since finding a passion for cycling 6 years ago.
In June I’m going to try and complete the 7th in the worlds hardest ultra endurance bike rides “according to red bull” called “The dragon devil” this is 300km and 4,500m of elevation which is over half of Mount Everest. I am riding this event for Perthes kids being a Perthes warrior myself! I’m raising money for their summer camp which takes place in August that’s funded purely by donations. I am also volunteering to be part of it so I can help out with the kids and speak with parents. Please donate what ever you can even if it’s just a few quid!
Thankyou x
