Story
On Sunday 27th April, I am running the London Marathon for the Spinal Injuries Association, a charity very close to my families heart.
In March 2001, my wife's uncle (my mother in law’s twin brother) Neil, was knocked off of his motorcycle in central London by a car making an illegal manoeuvre. Neil suffered serious injuries and was left quadriplegic. He spent 6 months of his 2 years in Stoke Mandeville hospital, in a coma. There were many terrifying moments during his time in rehabilitation and it was not clear if he would ever make it home. He even married the love of his life in hospital.
After much devastation and upheaval Neil’s family found a new home for him when he was eventually discharged but this had to be adapted with a lift etc and suitable for 24 hour live in carers.
Although Neil and his families life was turned upside down they tried their upmost to continue life as best as they possibly could. Sadly in 2012 Neil passed away at home aged just 52 leaving behind 3 children. RIP Neil xx
