In 2023, I was out taking photos early one December morning for my Dawn Advent Calendar. As I wandered along Brighton's seafront, I met a young lad who was in a pretty bad way. We had a cup of tea and a chat, but I felt pretty helpless at knowing what else to do.

Afterwards, as I tried to understand how I could help in future, I came across Make Change Count - a campaign that coordinates efforts raising money and supporting a range of charities helping the homeless in Brighton and Hove. I decided then and there to support them with my Dawn Advent Calendar if I could.

In Brighton it’s hard to walk down the street without seeing someone who’s homeless. In 2017 Brighton had the 2nd largest homeless population in England. 80% of homeless people report a mental health issue, this combined with physical ill-health creates a desolate situation.

The various charities supported through Make Change Count really do amazing work. So... if you've enjoyed the Dawn Advent Calendar and are able to support it with any kind of donation, then I and they would hugely appreciate it.
