The Nightingale Centre’s Mammary Walk · 7 September 2024 ·

Lisa Thomas has challenged her colleagues to take on a 'Mammary Walk'. 50 inflatable boobs will descend the streets of Manchester to raise funds for the National Breast Imaging Academy, getting more women to their mammograms, sooner.

Story

Charlie works at the Nightingale Centre at Wythenshawe Hospital and Kaite is is her best mate of 20 years. Together with over 40 other people they are taking part in The Nightingale Centre’s Mammary walk!

They will be walk 10k dressed as boobs starting at St Peter’s Square in Manchester City centre and walking to Salford quays past lots of landmarks the back in to the city centre.

There are severe workforce shortages within breast imaging in the UK. On top of this, an estimated 12,000 people could be living with undiagnosed breast cancer due to 1.5 million fewer breast screening appointments being carried out during the pandemic.

Our appeal for a new National Breast Imaging Academy would enable up to 13,000 extra patients to be seen at The Nightingale Centre each year, as well as further dedicated space for research into breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. This would greatly enhance the breast service and save a great many lives.

Get behind Prevent Breast Cancer and staff at The Nightingale Centre and help us build the National Breast Imagine Academy, using science to save lives.
