Story
In 2019 our son Tomi was diagnosed with epilepsy. He began his ‘Alderhey’ journey as an outpatient. Following an MRI scan we were told he had a brain cavernoma which was the likely cause of his epilepsy.
We were soon handed over to the neurosurgeons as they explored the possibility of a craniotomy to remove the cavernoma.
In 2023 we finally took the plunge and at the age of 10 Tomi underwent brain surgery to remove the cavernoma. Alderhey were amazing throughout the whole process. The care we received was outstanding and we were reassured throughout the whole process. We continued to be supported by Alderhey whilst Tomi is under review to see if the surgery was successful in ending/reducing his seizures.
18 years ago my nephew, Jack, was admitted to Alderhey at only 3 weeks old to receive an operation for pyloric stenosis which as a family we were extremely grateful for.
In July 2022, my brother in law’s niece was sadly diagnosed with leukaemia and has been cared for by Alderhey ever since. When Tomi was in Alderhey having his craniotomy we met with Daisy during one of her many inpatient stays in Alderhey. After this meeting we decided to sign up for this event as a way of thanking Alderhey for all they have done for our families.
I will be cycling from London to Amsterdam, covering just short of 400 miles over 4 days.
We hope you can support us as we embark on this challenge. Thank you
