Story

Can someone with Cystic Fibrosis climb the highest summit on each of the 7 continents? How about an oldish CFer?

Aconcagua - yes, Carstenz Pyramid - yes, Denali - yes, Elbrus - yes, Everest - yes (eventually after just about surviving the world's two worst disasters there!), Kilimanjaro yes.

In December I am attempting to become the first CFer to summit the 7 summits, and to make it more exciting will then attempt to ski the last degree to reach the South Pole. High altitude mountains are unpredictable I've encountered crevasses, earthquakes, avalanches and on high mountains I have a 64% success rate which means anything can happen and frequently will.

Whilst lucky as a CFer to now be 46 having had a life expectancy of around 16, I have the added challenge of doing these expeditions with people who often have up to 30% more lung capacity. This means my training needs to be more intensive and I can often be seen walking through London and going up and down Greenwich Hill carrying up to 25kg (55lbs) in a rucksack and dragging a tyre (Horace) behind me. I want to encourage young CFers, and indeed anyone, to push whatever their limits are, whether a 100 metres or a 100 miles, and I hope that people will go much further than me.

Please consider donating to the CF Trust (or another CF Charity) to help them fund research for treatments which can help all CFers have hope and lead a life unlimited.

I am also interested in speaking with any corporate sponsors who I can provide a package to in exchange for giving money to a CF charity and/or help with expedition costs.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic condition which causes sticky mucus to build up in the lungs and digestive system. It affects many thousands of people across the world. One in 25 of us carries the faulty gene that causes it, usually without knowing.

Cystic fibrosis comes with challenges, affecting our physical health, mental wellbeing and how we choose to live our lives. But our community is uniting towards the ultimate goal of effective treatment for all.

The CF Trust helps fund research and support for people with CF.
