Story
SOLD OUT! But please feel free to donate if you wish!
In 2018, Angus MacQuarrie was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND). MND is an incurable disease, affecting the brain and nerves. Anyone who met Angus will remember him for his sense of humour and warm hospitality. Angus was also a big fan of music, playing ‘the box’ and amassing a superb record collection which I’ve been fortunate enough to trawl through after a ‘few’ drinks at Finlay’s flat.
Six months after hearing the devastating news about his Dad, Finlay received the news that his Mum, Catherine Mary, had Pancreatic Cancer, and a few months later this extremely aggressive cancer overcame her. Angus courageously battled MND until it too overcame him in early 2020.
I’ve never felt so helpless watching a friend suffer what Finlay, and his brother Robbie, went through. This ceilidh is simply an opportunity to show some support, raise some money for charity, and have a bit of craic.
On 22nd June, we will be hosting an evening of dancing at the Glasgow University Union, to raise money for the ‘My Name’5 Doddie Foundation’.
Tickets for entry are £15 and can be purchased here - https://www.tickettailor.com/events/ceilidhforangus/
A running total of funds raised through ticket sales will be shown on this JustGiving page, which will be updated weekly. Funds will also be used to cover costs such as hall hire. Proceeds from a raffle on the night will also be contributed, for which donations and gifts are greatly welcomed and appreciated. If you cannot attend, you are more than welcome to leave a donation.
This is a night not to be missed. The ceilidh will be led by musicians who have between them recorded with the BBC, performed at festivals and played dances throughout Scotland and abroad.
The My Name’5 Doddie Foundation is committed to helping improve the lives of those affected by MND. They help fund grants, giving considerable sums to the MND Association and MND Scotland to administer to individuals and families living with MND. They work in partnership with existing frontline care providers to ensure the holistic needs of patients and their families are understood and met. They do this through supporting their friends at MND Scotland and MND Association, who conduct the due diligence and manage these grants on their behalf. To find out more about the grants and to apply, head to either MND Scotland or MND Association’s grant pages. The foundation also initiates, and encourages, research to better the information and support needs of MND patients and their families.
Thank you in advance for attending in support or contributing towards this worthy cause. We hope to make it a night Angus would have been proud of.
