Story
I’m so excited and grateful to be running the London Marathon in 2025 to raise money for Anthony Nolan.
Along the way I’ll be doing various events, hoping to raise as much as I can for this amazing charity. The first event in the calendar is Torbay Half Marathon on 29th September 2024. And I’ll need everyone’s help to decide if I’m running London in fancy dress - and as what?!
Why donate and what the charity does:
When dad was ill (over 30 years ago) he was given a stem cell transplant. For families and people affected by leukaemia and other blood conditions, the hospital visits and the illness become what your lives circle around. Each phase of treatment has that glimmer of hope at the end of it - that you’ll hear the word ‘remission’ and it might finally be over. When you can look out and see the rest of the world again.
Anthony Nolan’s stem cell register is such a bright beacon for people. It offers an oasis of hope for 4 people EACH DAY who are in need of a stem cell transplant. Those people, their families and friends are given such a gift, the potential to be well again, to live.
The stem cell register is just one part of the charity’s work. They also do groundbreaking cell and gene therapy research - leading to advances in treatments to help even more people. It costs £40 to fully recruit, tissue type and add someone to the Anthony Nolan stem cell register.
The more people recruited to the stem cell register, the broader the range of people who can be given this gift of life because there is more chance of finding a match for each patient. Every pound that goes to the charity, goes directly to this work to help people be well again.
If you can spare some money then we can give more people that opportunity. It’s now also possible to set up recurring payments, so if that’s something you feel you can do for a small amount each month, that’d be amazing. Times are tight, so please only donate what you can afford and if you can afford it. I’m so, so grateful for any and all of it 🙏🏻
