Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In summer 2020, I had just passed my final professional qualification as a Duty Solicitor and had returned from holiday in Tenby. What unfolded next shook me to my core. I found a lump in my breast, pretty much by accident. I certainly wasn't routinely checking well enough.
Tests followed, with particularly anxious waiting for results. I underwent surgery in November 2020 and was treated at Velindre Cancer Centre in early 2021.
Running is a passion of mine and throughout my diagnosis and treatment, I continued running. I completed 5km at 2 weeks post surgery and ran 2 half marathons whilst undergoing radiotherapy. My first attempt at ultra distance was 3 months after finishing radiotherapy - 50km at Race to the Stones 2021. Since then, I've taken on another 5 ultras including the full distance at Race to the Stones. This is my biggest challenge so far. I'm taking on Race to the King and Race to the Stones, each is 100km or 62 miles in old money and they are only three weeks apart. I've added a third event - The Vale of Glamorgan Ultra Marathon 40 miles from Porthcawl to Penarth on the coastal path on 3rd June. It's scary level.
One in two of us will be diagnosed with a form of cancer at some point and the services available to a person going through a cancer diagnosis are absolutely vital. Maggie's Centres provide support all over the UK to people who have had cancer but also their families. I have had the benefit of being part of the Young Women's group and I'd like to give something back.
If you can spare the cost of a cuppa or a glass of wine, I'd be very grateful!
Thank you!
