Story

For the past 20 years, I have worked in schools and witnessed first-hand the struggles that many young people face with their mental health. Support services are so stretched, making it difficult for young people to receive the help they desperately need. Parents want to offer help, but don't know how to do so effectively.

This is where Parenting Mental Health (PMH) plays a vital role. PMH provides invaluable support, advice, and guidance to parents, empowering them to better support their children. The impact of PMH's work is life-changing.

PMH is a small charity primarily run by dedicated volunteers who have personal experience of the effectiveness of the PMH approach. Despite their limited resources, they manage to provide support to a Facebook community of over 40,000 parents, offering kind, responsive, and informed advice - even during unsociable hours. Their commitment is humbling.(See below for more details)

PMH has set an ambitious goal of raising £100,000 this year. This funding will enable them to offer additional overnight support when parents need it most - filling a crucial gap left by other agencies. They also aim to expand access to their excellent 8-week course for parents by offering more funded places for lower income households.

It will mean an awful lot to me if you are able to make a donation to this cause - and it will help inspire me to complete the trek to the top of Snowdon in the dark! (Here's hoping that the sun does indeed rise for us!)

(*The PMH approach was born out of Suzanne Alderson's own struggle to find help for her family. Her 'Partnering not Parenting' approach is built on three core principles: 'Step down, Stand beside and travel together.' (see this short introductory video for more information https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EURSPfun0ZU()

Suzanne Alderson's book 'Never Let Go' is highly recommended (especially the audiobook version which is available on Spotify, and Audible - taster clip available here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0r37uMmHBm8)

About the charity

When 2/3 children with a diagnosable mental health issue don't get treatment from the NHS, they turn to parents - yet everything you knew about parenting is changed. PMH aim to skill and support 1 million parents through this experience by 2026, with vital resources, guides and connection.
