Story
Hello! We are Adam, Sam, Cath, Evie and Ffion, lectures and students at Swansea Nursing Department, and we are running Swansea half marathon to help change student nurses’ lives.
Student nurses play a crucial role in healthcare. They are the future frontline workers, caring for patients and contributing to the well-being of communities. It’s vital to recognise that student nurses are more than just their academic performance. Their mental wellbeing matters, too. Having been through the course as a student nurse as recently as 2016 Adam know all too well the demands the course places on an individual. Nursing education is rigorous, demanding long hours of study, clinical placements, lectures but at what cost? Recently the nursing profession has witnessed several tragic incidents related to mental health and where there are limited studies on suicide among nursing students, research indicates that they experience more stress and mental health challenges than the average student.
Supporting their mental health ensures they can thrive both personally and professionally to make that difference to patient care, so this is why we are asking for you help. Every journey starts with a single step, and at Swansea University, Department of Nursing we’re making strides towards greater wellbeing, and believe nobody struggling with their mental health should suffer alone. By donating you are committing to support bettering mental health for everyone, from safe spaces for student nurses to suicide prevention for future generations and will empower these dedicated individuals to thrive both academically and emotionally. Let’s ensure that our student nurses receive the care they need to become compassionate and resilient professionals.
If you’re unable to donate currently, that’s okay! You can still help by sharing our fundraising page with your network. Every share count and brings us closer to our goal, and if you or someone you know is struggling, please seek professional help and reach out to available mental health resources. Remember that you are not alone, and there are people who care about your well-being and the Samaritans offer 24-hour support on 116 123, or you can email jo@samaritans.org
