Story
Two weeks ago, we had to call an ambulance for our Josie after another seizure. She went on to have 6 more in A&E. After being heavily sedated, she had 3 more the following day before she stabilised. She has been diagnosed with epilepsy and is now on medication to control her seizures. Her recovery in the hospital took a bit longer than normal, but a few days later, she began walking and talking again. She has been so brave! Each day, she's made huge steps forward and is now back to her usual bubbly self.
During our hospital stay we were lucky enough to meet some of the 'Giggle Doctors' from Theadoras Children's charity- a bunch of very talented performance artists who visit hospitals across the country. Their sensitive approach with each child, and their gentle humour feels like a warm hug during a difficult time. Their tricks are pretty impressive too! They made everyone feel special and brought a spark of joy to the day. You can read all about them here:
I'm doing Run Every Day February (with a personal target of 100 km) to raise money and make a contribution on behalf of Josie and our family. £420 Would pay for the Giggle Doctors to visit a hospital for 4 hours and spend time with 24 children. If you can support me by giving a small donation please do. And feel free to share the post too 🩷
"Theodora Children's Charity transforms children’s experience of hospitals from an environment that can be scary and isolating into a place of fun, play and laughter. Our Giggle Doctors are specially trained performers, who combine music, play and storytelling, to bring moments of joy and laughter to thousands of children facing huge challenges with their health. With each visit, we aim to reduce distress and anxiety, increase opportunities for play and improve children’s experience of hospital."
