Story
We are a team of local mums (and kids!) who have met through a weekly circuit class on a Monday night. The money we raise through walking the 13 miles at this year’s Night to Remember will go towards a really important cause that is local to us all at Kingston Hospital; we are raising money to provide specialist psychological support for families that have sadly lost a child.
Losing a child is one of the most intensely painful experiences for parents and families to go through. Families describe how they feel like they’ve lost a part of themselves and struggle to return to normal life. For some losing a child may make them feel like they’ve lost their role as parents. Guilt is a very common feeling, as is anger about the unfairness of it all. Death affects the whole family and can put a lot of strain on relationships, as we all grieve differently.
The bereavement psychologists at Kingston Hospital will ensure all families have access to specialist support as they grieve. Research shows that bereaved families are at higher risk of mental and physical poor health and that psychological support is very important in helping to improve this. The paediatric family liaison nurses at Kingston Hospital support families at the most difficult and distressing times imaginable after losing a child.
All of us, or our families, have been fortunate to use Kingston Hospital when we have needed it over the years and we would like to give something back. This is why we are raising money for this important cause.
Please help us raise as much as we can!!!
