Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Shenay is an Ophthalmic nurse working in a busy eye casualty and macular injection service and Cath is an Orthoptist and advanced practitioner in ophthalmology working in a macular assessment and injection service. We have both chosen to devote our working lives to managing and treating eye conditions, and in particular, macular disease. We are both passionate about education and research in eye care. Recently Cath’s mum was diagnosed with a currently untreatable hereditary macular condition and Shenay and Cath thought it would be incredibly fitting to raise money for the macular society.
We have decided to aim high and take on the challenge of a lifetime by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in May 2025 together!
Nearly 1.5 million people in the UK have macular disease; AMD being the most common condition, which is the biggest cause of sight loss affecting more than 700,000 people. The Macular Society isn't stopping research until they find a cure - because no one should have their sight stolen from them.
Please support us, no matter how large or small a donation, your money will be going towards vital research to maintain peoples’ sight, and will be keeping Cath and Shenay inspired to dig deep, climb high (5895m!) and raise money for this really important charity, giving hope to the thousands of people facing sight loss due to macular disease.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
