Story
Hi everyone.
As you probably know, I work for Zest in Leeds, who work to address some of the shocking inequality in our wonderful city.
Whilst I work firmly in the engine room trying to raise as much money as I can to keep us going, I see first hand pretty much every day the incredible work that's being done to make Leeds a fair city for everyone who lives here. I hate the fact that some of the worst poverty in the country exists in Leeds less than half a mile from places where folk can comfortably spend £50 on some artisan cheese, and yet I am buoyed by the fact that there are many people in our city committed to making life better for those living in conditions simply not acceptable for a rich country in the 21st century. Zest falls into this camp - the dedication of the staff to the people we serve is immeasurable. I've found a charity I am proud to say I work for, and I am proud to write about. In fact I could write all day.
The 10in10.
Today, someone living in a more affluent area of Leeds will live at least 10 years longer than someone living in a deprived area of the city. In many cases, these communities live just metres away - we're sure you'll agree that where someone is born shouldn't affect their life chances in such a significant way.
The 10-in-10 is a 10 mile walk across Leeds to represent this shocking difference in life expectancy. Starting at Harewood House, we'll be making our way off-road through rolling countryside, ending at Bruntwood's city centre location Platform, where we can look back at the view of our beautiful city.
