Story
At 9 years old I was lucky enough to follow my sister and to start learning how to sail on an Optimist. After more than 25 years on various dinghies and yachts I will now cross my first ocean this way.
Every day on the water is another day full of experiences and learnings. Sailing is fun, thrilling, and at the same time relaxing. It asks all sorts of capabilities: thinking outside of the box, being observant as well as ingenious, all while basing yourself on fundamentals and humility towards nature's forces.
UNICEF is the Charity Partner for The Clipper 2023-24 Round the World Yacht Race and I'm proud to be raising money to support their vital work for children especially as I am a crew member of team UNICEF.
With the big blue boat (@thebigblueclipperboat) and the approx 20 team members, I will be crossing the Atlantic sailing on a 70 ft racing yacht starting in Portsmouth (United Kingdom) on September 3rd and arriving in Punta del Este (Uruguay) mid October. As I am only doing Leg 1, I will “unplug” during the race, but will keep you updated before and after my Atlantic Crossing.
Since 2021, I have used my race preparation to raise awareness and funds for the basic education and literacy programs of the Rotary Foundation. I have kept updates there so far and will continue to share on both pages. Rotary is also an official partner of Unicef, especially for the Polio eradication efforts, which is why I am very happy to be on their team. Once arrived in South America I plan to use both networks to discover a few countries around from a different perspective and visit a few projects.
UNICEF ensures more of the world's children are vaccinated, educated and protected than any other organisation. In 190 countries and territories UNICEF works to save children's lives, to defend their rights, and to help them fulfil their potential, from early childhood through adolescence.
Every donation will help to build a better world for every child, every day, everywhere. You can find out more about UNICEF's work at unicef.org.uk
