In the lead up to my 50th birthday, I am taking on numerous challenges culminating in a climb up Mount Kilimanjaro - the world's largest free standing mountain.

I have decided to raise money for Longfield Community hospice, following the great work they did for my Step father Don when he came home from hospital having being diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia in September of 2023. Once diagnosed he spent weeks in Rendcomb ward Cheltenham hospital, where they tried their best to give Don extra time, but the disease was too aggressive and nothing helped. He came home on Dec 8th after stopping all treatment and sadly passed away on Dec 13th. The nurses from Longfield visited every day and were an invaluable resource for my mum, even if only to provide a smiling, supportive face. The time they were needed for Don was short, but we recognise that this is not always the case and the support they provide to families is vital. As well as the day to day care for patients, they also provide much needed respite care and support for family members.

I will be doing various walks in preparation for Kilimanjaro and will keep you updated on my progress. The first challenge is the Winter Walk in London on Jan 28th which is half marathon distance.
