We raise funds for older people to improve their mental health & wellbeing

Story

I am so proud to be part of Team Rainbow and am always inspired to go the extra mile when I see what we achieve for the people we support. So on Sunday 8th October 2023, I will be running the London Parks Half Marathon for the Rainbow Foundation, Wrexham.

DID YOU KNOW?

1 in 10 older people are lonely, 50 % of adults over 50 are living with a chronic illness, and 1 in 4 struggle with their mental health each year, dementia is on the rise, and care is in crisis.

OUR RESPONSE

The Rainbow Foundation is an active ageing charity, working hard to directly respond to these challenges.

Our award-winning day opportunities and home care service provide care closer to home, effectively tackling loneliness and supporting people to live independently.

We provide much-needed accessible transport to enable those most in need to reach us, this would not be possible without support from our sponsors.

We employ a growing number of Community Agents, who are on the ground, providing outreach support to the over 50’s, including accessing benefits or using digital technology to setting up a range of local support groups which are supported by our incredible volunteers.

Our social prescribers are based in all GP surgeries across Wrexham, offering talking therapy, tools and techniques, and signposting to support patients to better manage their mental health, chronic illness and positive behaviour change.

And, to reduce the risk of falls and related hospital admissions, we have launched our innovative ‘Active Futures’ programme. Active Futures helps build confidence, strength and resilience for those at risk of falls. Early results have been incredible, lives have been transformed, and Active Futures is now available across all of Wrexham.

This is all in addition to our peer support groups which run daily and include our lunch clubs, art group, knitters, choir, dementia singing group and much more.... details of which can be found at: https://therainbowfoundation.org.uk/services/rainbow-groups/
