Story

I can see some of you are already thinking what is she doing this time.......?

As time goes on, doing physical challenges is becoming harder, I'm not as fast as I once was and it takes me longer to recover from training sessions. I also need to remind my brain that my body can't always do what it thinks I can do - which is hard as I watch my friends doing races and events that I used to do with ease, but can no longer manage.

However - without goals to work towards I struggle to find my purpose. No longer able to work, I need a reason to get out of bed in the morning, and continuing to push my body and stay as fit as possible not only gives me that, but it definitely improves my mood enormously and reduces the many side effects from my ongoing treatment regime.

It is almost 3 years since I was diagnosed with incurable, stage 4 breast cancer, and I have been on chemotherapy for almost all that time. Despite appearances, it is really tough.

The Maggies Centre at Bart's hospital continues to be somewhere that provides me and many others like me, with a comfortable place both physically and emotionally during the many hours I spend in hospital having treatment. This is why I'd like to raise some more money for them in a variety of ways over the next 6 months.

The main event is the 2025 London Marathon as my place has been given to me by Maggies. I will not be setting any records but my goal is to really enjoy it and take it all in, without the added pressure of a PB to aim for.

Prior to that, in March I have 2 events on consecutive weekends - first is the Orion 15. A notoriously difficult 15 mile cross country race in Epping Forest that I have done twice before, and vowed never again. The hills are brutal and the mud legendary, but it is on my doorstep and the support is second to none so I couldn't resist the challenge one more time.

The following weekend is the Camino Ultra gratitude 25k along the river Lee from Broxbourne to the Olympic park. This will be a stark contrast to the Orion 15 - fast and flat but still challenging and hopefully enjoyable.

Then in May I have a place in the Hackney Half marathon with Matilda, my 16 year old daughter. This is a race I have never done before, and it will be her first half marathon. My place was free as I volunteered last year, and I am looking forward to running the well supported course with Matilda by my side.

Then the grand finale is in June - a challenge of epic proportions that I really hope I can complete. The Polish Ironman team have kindly given me a free place in Warsaw 70.3 - also known as a half Ironman. This involves a 1.2 mile open water swim, a 56 mile bike ride followed by a half marathon. The main difficulty will be making the cut offs and not being timed out - my goal is to finish the race, nothing more.

So there you have it. That's what the next 6 months looks like for me, and with your help I would love to raise as much money for Maggies as is humanly possible.

I am not super human nor am I in the best of health so none of this will come easily to me. Mentally I am still tough but physically less so.

The more money I raise, the more I will be incentivised to head outside on cold, dark, winter days to train - so please dig deep.

All this obviously comes with the proviso that I can't predict what is going to happen with my health - (or my feet) between now and June - but I will give it my best shot.

Thank you
