Story
My husband, Neil passed away on 24th June 2023, aged 45, from a Glioblastoma (GBM). He died 6 months and 1 day from his diagnosis. Until Neil’s diagnosis I had never heard of GBM and was blissfully unaware of this devastating disease.
I have since learned that GBM is known as the ‘neglected’ cancer. Despite being the most common type of primary malignant brain tumour in adults little progress has been made in the treatment of GBM in the NHS over the past 20 years. The median survival time for someone diagnosed with GBM is 14 months.
Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killers of children and adults under 40, yet in the UK this deadly cancer receives only 2% of the total cancer spend. This must change so that brain cancer has equivalent profile and research funding to other, less rare cancers.
I am organising this walk, in memory of my much loved husband, to raise not only money but awareness of GBM,
