The event aims to raise money to take a number of patients from Walsall, Wolverhampton, Sandwell and Dudley on a sailing trip up the coast of Wales through The Voyage to Recovery programme. The main purpose of this trip is to promote recovery and self esteem by patients learning new skills and working as a team and also to raise awareness of psychosis in the community. The model is a unique opportunity as many of our patients have not seen the British coast. Psychosis is an extremely isolating illness, alongside stigma. Recent studies have shown the importance of Activity Therapy in helping someone to regain social functioning. The Voyage to Recovery programme integrates learning activities with a therapeutic environment, where patients and staff work together.
