Story

Our team has come together due to the lived experience of a special person who is dear to us all.

This my beautiful strong cousin, and for as long as I am physically able, I will continue to fight to change the face of cancer and fight to get these services the recognition and funding that they do desperately need.

Karen Bonser - wife, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, friend and colleague, has been living with sarcoma cancer for over 6 years and faced a heartbreaking prognosis.

St Giles were there for her in her most difficult hour. She has this to say about their services.

'When I was admitted to St Giles Hospice in Lichfield I believed that I wasn't going to leave. I was at an all time low, having ran out of options for treatment, dangerously undernourished and in severe pain all day every day.

However, I didn't really appreciate that paliative care is about living and not dying. Providing you with dignity and all the tools to live your best positive life within the limits of your disease. The care provided by the team was life changing. Every single person, from doctors and nurses, community care, catering staff, volunteers and cleaners made such a positive and happy environment. Always focused on my care and making the very best of every situation.

They made my situation manageable enabling to make the very most of the time I have left with those I love.

I cannot believe that this service is solely funded by fundraising activities. It is a much needed service in todays society and we want to support them to enable more people like me to continue to live their best life.

I am very proud that my family and friends have made the decision to support St Giles in their fundraising activities and thank them from the bottom of my heart'.

To help raise money, I will be cycling from Great Yarmouth to Barmouth (318 miles) over 5 days, ahead of joining the family to walk up Snowdon. I am so grateful for the care they gave to Karen, and hope we can smash out £20K target.

St Giles deliver care to some of the most vulnerable people in your local community, but it costs £850,000 every month just to keep their services going. They need us, their patients need us. Thank you so much if you decide to make a donation. IT WILL MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE.
