Story

Thanks for supporting our fundraising efforts.

Those of you who have followed our fundraising journey since it started in 2019 will know that the Grand Depart in Brussels was brutal and had a lasting impact on us all. This was not just as a result of the thermonuclear weather that we rode in; we met Carl who had a profound effect on us all, and we are honoured to call him our friend.

At the age of 51, Carl was diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer, a diagnosis that took some time to come to terms with. Rather than dwelling on his situation, Carl decided to challenge himself by riding the Grand Depart in Brussels to give him something to focus on. He also wanted to help raise vital funds for research in the hope that one day a cure can be found. Since then, One Hull Of A Ride have taken the Grand Departs in Yorkshire and Copenhagen as well as organising our own ride from Hull to London which we undertook in 2023. 2024 saw us taking on a slightly different challenge in The Netherlands.

The Royal British Legion provide a lifetime of care and support to the UK Armed Forces and their families.

2025 will see the members of One Hull Of A Ride taking on numerous fundraising events in a bid to pay back the support shown to Carl.

In June 2025 we will be cycling c200 miles, climbing 5,000 ft along the coast of Normandy visiting some of the most famous beaches in our modern history, as well as visiting various memorials along the way that commemorate soldiers from the Royal Engineers, which is the regiment that Carl served in, stopping to pay our respects to those who gave their tomorrow for our today.
