Story
I'm doing an Ironman, I might have mentioned it a couple of times. I decided that I wanted to do this about 18 months ago, when I learnt to swim. I was 41 and petrified of open water. I felt putting in a bit of a stretch ambition was the only way to overcome a fear I'd had since I was a kid. I used to be a decent runner (albeit never ran more than a half marathon) and resting cyclist, so why not!
An Ironman is a 3.8km swim, 180km cycle and a marathon as quick as you can btw. At best a long day out, at worst a very long day out.
So arm bands and all I learned to swim and one sprint triathlon, two olympic triathlons, one half iron man and countless early mornings in the lake, near misses on my bike and loops of my 'run & base' running playlist later I find myself less than 5 weeks away from Ironman Copenhagen with a swim in the sea of all places...
I haven't done anything like this before and didn't want to waste the opportunity to raise money for this remarkable charity. Shooting Star Children's Hospices cares for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families across Surrey and London.
If you feel so compelled by my story or this wonderful charity, they would be so incredibly grateful for your sponsorship donation.
Thank you, 2 weeks to go 🏊♂️🚴🏃♂️
