Story

Raising Much Needed Funds for Adults with Learning Disability to Live a Life of Opportunity Now and in the Future

We are 70 this year! Incorporated in October 1954, with our first Community at Botton opening in 1955, we want to honour the people of our history, celebrate who we are today and deliver an ambitious and progressive future for those that we support now and in the years ahead.

Our audacious goal is to raise £70,000 for our 70th year. Your support will help more adults with Learning Disability and Autism to live independent, active and healthy lives, accessing the benefit of nature through a wide range of opportunities provided by the Charity. Your funds will help those that we support to live their best lives through meaningful work and opportunity. Funds will also contribute to community art, support a pilgrimage to the seat of Anthroposophy for those that have been part of our Trust for many years and will celebrate the many faces that have helped make the Trust who we are today.

So how will we achieve our goals? Our CEO, Sara Thakkar is leading the programme, together with Directors, Claire Twaites and Sally Watts and supported by Mia and Alex Lombardi, and Sam and Jack Bennett; a group of young fundraisers passionate about our cause.

Sara says "I have a deep respect for the history of our Charity and a passion for our future. I wanted to do something that pushed all normal boundaries and I wanted to raise awareness of the challenges that many people with differing support needs face every day. Our 70th year felt the right time to do that. I am incredibly proud that Claire and Sally did not hesitate to join me and that not just 1, but 4 of my close family were prepared to push themselves to the limit for our incredible cause".

The intrepid Seven will embark on an incredible challenge to climb to the roof of Africa; Mount Kilimanjaro, a total of 8 extreme days climbing. An average day on the expedition will mean trekking for 5-12 hours through many terrains and extreme weather changes ending in an extraordinary 17 hour final climb to the summit through the night. A tough training regime is needed for our determined team who are all committed to raising much needed funding for this great cause.

We will be sharing updates on their progress, and the progress of all of our Jubilee initiative's, through our social channels, website, and newsletters. Keep a look out and if you would like to support them and others across the Trust to help make a difference; please give a gift today.

We are committed to our environment and we will plant 300 trees across the communities of the Trust in the next 12 months of our Jubilee year to off set our carbon footprint.

Make a difference and donate today.
