S.T.E.P.S.: Supporting the Transformation of Equity and Power in Outdoor Spaces
Help us reach our goal at Camp Northern Lights by September 2!
STEPS Mission: The goal of Taking S.T.E.P.S. initiative is to create opportunities for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ families to experience representation and community in a family camp setting.
How STEPS Works (and what donations do):
S.T.E.P.S. works to engage historically underrepresented communities in family camp. There are three essential components:
Reserving space for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ during family camp
• In the summer, four separate sessions are designed so that 50% or more of campers identify as BIPOC or LGBTQ+ families
• In the colder months of the year, we also offer a STEPS Winter Retreat for families who are on the summer waitlist
• Actively engaging staff members in program development and staff training to promote equity and inclusion
• We offer tiered pricing which allows for families to choose from a range of tiers and opt in to pay the amount that best suits their family, from $50 to full price.
Your donation removes barriers and allows for families to experience a true sense of community and belonging at family camp.
Impact of STEPS:
• By September 2024, we will have welcomed over 250 STEPS campers.
• Since its inception, we’ve had eight STEPS campers join the Community Board at Camp Northern Lights.
• Throughout this program, we have received countless positive statements from campers about the impact S.T.E.P.S. had on their experience in the outdoors. Your donations will allow more families to become engaged at camp and in the outdoors. Every donation matters.
Summer 2024 Fundraising Benchmark Staff Social Media Incentives:
• At $750, CNL staff will host a virtual livestream campfire sing-along on Instagram where campers to tune in and request their favorite songs!
• At $1,500, Surprise Staff Skit Performance!
• At $2,500, Our entire CNL staff team will swamp in canoes!
• At $3,500, an original song written and performed by the staff team!
• At $5,000, CNL staff triathlon challenge!

• For each $50 donation you will receive a letter from staff
• For each $100 donation you will receive a wood burned wood cookie hand made by staff.
