Story
Motor Neurone Disease is a horrible condition that affects 5000 in the UK at any time, with there being a 1 in 300 risk of getting MND.
MND is a condition which causes muscles to weaken, stiffen and waste away, which causes difficulties with eating, drinking, talking, walking, and eventually breathing. MND has no cure, no cure yet.
MND has claimed the lives of a few of huge names in the rugby world, first Joost Van Der Westhuizen, then Doddie Weir, Rob Burrows and now Ed Slater continues his battle with the condition.
This swim from the North to the South of the Ullswater in the Lake District, a distance of 7.5 miles (if I don’t go off course) is my latest fundraising effort for My Name'5 Doddie, a charity founded for Doddie Weir, that focuses on Research, Support, Awareness, Sustainability, Love, Fun and Hope.
Not only will this be the longest open water swim I have ever done, it will also be the swimming equivalent of running a marathon, which is a very daunting thought.
