Story
We've signed up to the Arctic Challenge, a four-day endurance challenge that takes place in the icy wilderness north of Kiruna in Lapland.
We're playing against type, buckling up and taking to the tundra to raise money for the National Literacy Trust, a UK charity that does amazing work combating the crisis of literacy that the country currently faces.
We'll be orienteering, dog sledding and cross country skiing our way round the back of beyond in up to -35 degrees, mostly in the dark, in a schlep that will make or break our relationship.
It's all for a great cause - your donations will go towards empowering people with necessary literacy skills, which are faltering under the cost of living crisis.
Literacy is the key to the door of a happy and healthy life. It's also inextricably linked to poverty. In 2022/23, the number of children living in poverty increased by 100,000 from 4.2 million in 2021/22 to 4.3 million children - that's 30% of children in the UK.
Children born into communities with the most serious literacy challenges have some of the lowest life expectancies in England
The National Literacy Trust is dedicated to equipping children and young adults with the literacy skills they need to live the lives they want, making sure that people have a chance no matter how tough a start they get in life.
