Story
Hi everyone, my dad and I are climbing Mount Kilimanjaro from the 1st -7th July and our chosen charity is The Sydenham's Chorea Association (SCA).
Kilimanjaro is the largest free standing mountain in the world at a height of 5,895m (20,000ft).
This charity is very close to my heart as I was diagnosed with Sydenham's Chorea when I was 7 years old. Sydenham chorea (SC) is a neurological disorder that affects basic human skills such as walking, talking and eating.
I was admitted to the Yorkhill Children's Hospital in Glasgow where I was cared for nearly two months. Being in and out of hospital my whole life was challenging at times, but I always knew it was just part of the recovery to become fully fit and healthy.
Now age 20, I am the fittest and most healthy I've ever felt and now is the time to take on this monumental challenge.
The Sydenham's Chorea Association aims to provide information about the condition to patients, their families and others to help them understand the condition and how to manage it. Health professionals, parents and children have shared their stories to help others understand how the condition presents and is treated. Money raised supports family and education days, and helps us to fund research into the condition, working with a network of professionals. Our support network connects families all over the world.
