Story
My mom was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer in 2021 at the age of 71. Before that, she fought Breast Cancer in 1997. She recently passed away in October 2023 from her two-year battle with TNBC.
I've always turned to running as a means of escape. A place where I can go and my brain gets quiet as I focus on maintaining forward momentum. More than ever, running has become my solitude. A way to keep putting one foot in front of the other.
Some of us get to pick our "hard," and some of us don't. I have the opportunity for the former, and choose running. This October, I am running my first 50-mile race to honor and celebrate my mom's life and her battle(s) with cancer. She didn't get to pick her hard but fought anyway.
My mom underwent various forms of treatments ranging from chemotherapy, radiation, and finally, to a pill form of chemotherapy in the end. She knew it was a last resort, but fought alongside it to get more time with her family.
Triple Negative Breast Cancer remains a rare cancer and is thus, under-researched. My hope is that the money raised for my “hard” goes to further research and helps researchers continue to get one step closer to finding more ways to cure this disease, or at least get us more time with our loved ones. I would give anything to have more time with my mom.
Please consider donating to this fundraiser, and share with your friends and family, too.
I'll be posting weekly recaps of my training here and on my personal blog, and completing smaller races throughout the summer to keep things exciting.
Why support TNBC Foundation?
Only a small portion of donations to other breast cancer charities are used to fund research for Triple Negative Breast Cancer. Treatment of this form of breast cancer has therefore not progressed far enough and funds are desperately needed to bring us closer to finding a cure.
Together we can make a difference!
