Story
On 27th April 2025 I'm running the London Marathon for Team Hospice UK to raise money and awareness for hospice care.
Hospice care came into my life twenty years ago, when my mom was seeking end-of-life care a year after a terminal diagnosis. The hospice that came to us provided expert and compassionate treatment for my mother, respecting her wishes and being vigilant about her comfort. They also supported my family and me physically and emotionally during that time. The provided the kind of humane care that I want for myself and my loved ones, always treating my mother as a person rather than a patient.
Since then, I have wanted to give back to this cause, and after learning that the modern hospice movement was founded in the United Kingdom, I decided to put my fundraising efforts to honor the roots of the movement and raise awareness for a service that is needed now more than ever. Our aging population means that more people are living with complex, long-term conditions, and there is an untold number of people in underserved communities who lack access to hospice worldwide. As the UK's champion for hospices, Hospice UK supports over 200 hospices across the UK, helping them deliver the best, most personalized care to 300,000 people each year.
Put simply, hospice care eases the pain of death and dying—a universal condition—letting people focus on living, right until the end. I would like everyone to have that option for themselves and their loved ones, which is why I'm raising money for this cause.
