My Endo Experience

For those of you who don't know, I, along with many other women, suffer from Endometriosis. 1 in 10 women suffer from this condition. That is a LOT of women across the planet, and for a condition as common as asthma and diabetes, it really does not get the funding and support that it should and desperately needs. I have begrudgingly shared more than half of my life with this condition and its debilitating symptoms, waiting 7 years for an official diagnosis like many others and had various different "treatments" until then. It has affected my life as a professional working woman in almost all of my jobs and this can be so common with the lack of awareness and education on the condition. Unfortunately there is no way to prevent endometriosis and there is currently no cure, so because this condition affects mine and many others personal and professional lives, I thought it would be a really worthwhile cause to raise money and awareness for :)

About the condition

Endometriosis is a progressive, chronic condition that can start at puberty and continue through to old age, it has many different symptoms for different people and can be so debilitating at all levels. Normally before a period, the endometrium thickens to receive a fertilised egg in response to a release of the hormone oestrogen. When pregnancy does not happen, the lining breaks down and leaves the body as menstrual blood (a period).

Endometriosis tissue can grow anywhere else in the abdomen and somtimes in the chest as well as inside of a uterus. This tissue will go through the same process of thickening and shedding, but it has no way of leaving the body and is trapped. This leads to pain, swelling and sometimes damage to the fallopian tubes or ovaries, causing fertility problems. Other symptoms include chronic pelvic/back/leg pain during and in between periods, adhesions and scar tissue, bloating, heavy bleeding, mind fog, chronic fatigue, depression and many more.
