Story
What are we doing - On the 19th June 2024, 12 employes and colleagues of SIG from all over the South of England, will undertake cycling from Lewes to Paris (Roughly 200km) over three days. Training has already begun for the team as all at varying age and fitness levels !.
Why we are doing it - Alfie Coulson is the son of a friend, colleague and customer of SIG. In 2022 Alfie was admitted to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham with suspected Leukaemia. Four days later this was confirmed and Alfie then started his horrendous rollercoaster journey of treatment.
Alfie has now completed the 2nd phase of treatment and is now in the final 'maintenace' stage which is due to end in March 2025.
Unfortunately Alfie has suffered extreme side effects of his chemotherapy and now has to breath through a tracheotomy due to a collapsed wind pipe , and is due a consultation at Great Ormond Street to look at reconstructive surgery.
This has been a challenging journey for Alfie and through it all he has carried a smile on his face which has helped to keep his family strong and inspire those around him.
The support and care given to not just Alfie but the whole family has helped to carry them through the hardest of times. And with this in mind we would like to raise as much money as possible so that Leukaemia Care can continue supporting families at a time when they need it the most.
Who we are doing it for - Leukaemia Care is a national charity dedicated to ensuring that anyone affected by blood cancer receives the right information, advice and support. Around 34,000 people are affected by blood cancer each year in the UK and we're here to support them through their diagnosis, treatment and beyond.
If you are willing and able to make a donation to the team taking on this challenge, to help continue improving the support and care offered to anyone suffering from Leukaemia we will be incredibly greatful.
