Story
The Papworth transplant team and patients are seeking to raise the profile of cardiothoracic transplantation by undertaking a charitable ride from Royal Papworth Hospital to Harrogate at beginning of March. Harrogate is the venue for the British Transplant Society’s annual congress and the theme of this year’s congress is Sustainability and Environmentalism. We aim to demonstrate how successful, transformative and revitalising therapy cardiothoracic transplantation can be. We hope this will raise the awareness of the importance of organ donation in addition we think that cycle to the congress will resonate with the theme of the congress.
This enterprise has been supported by the Papworth Charitable fund.
My reasons for participation are that I need to make the very most of the opportunities that transplant has offered me, and the incredible inclusiveness that the Royal Papworth Team helps me feel. I feel so grateful and excited that I have been given a second chance of not just surviving but actually living and truly appreciating the miracle that transplantation and donating offer. If I can help in some small way to highlight the impact and importance of donating organs to people who were, are, or will be in my position, then I am forever obliged to do so in my opinion. - Bike ride participant and Royal Papworth Hospital lung transplant recipient.
