Story
Dear Friends,
We are so proud and pleased to announce that June has joined Team Domenica for the next two years.
Team Domenica is an amazing Brighton charity that supports young people with learning disabilities to find paid work and reach their full potential.
They need funding to help deliver their extremely successful programme, designed to help their young people – called candidates – develop independence, confidence, communication, and work skills ready for employment.
Why is their work so important?
Just 4.8 % of people with a learning disability are employed in England.
They are twice as likely to suffer from mental health issues and seven times as likely to suffer from chronic loneliness and isolation.
Team Domenica’s programme works: an amazing 81% of their candidates progress into paid employment through their Supported Internship Programme. And 95% of their candidates are still in work a year later (vs. the national average of 25%).
All learners are aged 19 to 24 years old and have special educational needs and/or disabilities, including Down’s syndrome, autism and social and communication needs.
They study qualifications in employability, mathematics and English at entry level to level 2 and also undertake work experience in the college’s own training cafes and in a wide range of workplaces in the locality.
June has started the 2 year course last week and loving it. I can see this is so right for her.
With that in mind, June, Curtis, Jen and I would like to invite you to support this amazing organisation and the young people they help every year by sponsoring our team in The Great Lengths Swim Challenge fundraising event this coming Saturday 21 September 2024 where we will be doing a tag team swim of 1.6km.
I'm doing this challenge to help as many young people as possible achieve their dreams. Can you help?
Please do click on our Justgiving link below if you can spare a few pennies for Team Domenica and Team June!
Wishing you all well and sending much love and thanks from all of us !!!
