Story
As many of you may know, my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer back in May 2021, after concern was flagged up following a routine mammogram check up. This absolutely shattered our world as you never think it will happen so close to home or to somebody who means so much to you. We were all fearful for the near future as we knew it would not be a quick or easy road to recovery and we knew very little about the disease.
On the 28th June 2021 my mum underwent surgery to have a cancerous tumour removed along with 6 lymph nodes from underneath her arm. After a few weeks of recovery she then braved 5 months of tedious weekly sessions of chemotherapy. This made my mum’s immune system and health hit rock bottom and also made her lose all of her hair and her sparkle that we all know and love. This was then followed with a month of radiotherapy and she is still to this day on life-long medication as a precaution to help decrease the chances of her cancer coming back.
It is because of the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre that I am lucky enough to wake up every day and see my mum happy and healthy and we can have days out, go on holidays and still work together. Me and my family can not thank them enough for their hard work and support when we needed it the most.
Those of you who know my mum will know she is secretly a little dare devil and therefore we are going to take part in a 150ft abseil down the Liverpool Clatterbridge Cancer Centre on the 22nd June 2024. We have chose to do this as an opportunity to give back to the people who saved my mum’s life so they can continue helping families who are affected by this horrible disease. We’re also supporting those close to us that we know and love that have also been affected by cancer themselves or lost loved ones. We also would like to raise awareness to make sure you or your wife/mum/sister/friend etc. go for their routine mammogram check ups as it may be nerve wracking but it could also save your life.
Feel free to donate any amount you wish to support us whilst we give back and raise money as a thank you to the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre.
Thanks, Brooke xxx
