Story
For those that were lucky enough to know my mum would have known that she was the most kind-hearted person you would ever meet, she had time for everyone, did everything for everyone else, and always did it with a smile.
This was until our mum was sadly taken from us at the young age of 55. I was 21, my sister 23, and my dad 56.
My mum was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in 2017, and two years later, in January 2019, the disease finally won. MND left my mum without any movement in her body, as well as difficulties breathing, eating, and talking.
I am therefore running the London Marathon to raise vital funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association, the biggest charity supporting MND in the UK. There is currently no cure or preventative treatment for MND and I want to be part of the campaign towards a world free from MND.
As well as this, I want to raise money to help support victims and families when facing MND. MNDA provided invaluable support for my mum and my family, and I want to ensure others receive that support.
For context:
£85 could buy software to enable someone to bank their own voice.
£500 could fund a tablet device with communication software - this was invaluable for my mum, giving her freedom back and the ability to communicate with loved ones.
£1000 could pay for detailed analysis of the DNA of someone with MND to help us better understand the causes of the disease.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and thank you for all donations, it is so greatly appreciated.
If you want to follow my strava to track my training, please do feel free to follow, or I shall keep you updated.
And if you are around on the 21st April 2024, get the date in your diary...The London Marathon is a brilliant day out!
