Story

Welcome to my JustGiving page! I’m embarking on an incredible 9-day journey through the breathtaking landscapes of Machu Picchu, scaling altitudes of over 4,600 meters, all in the name of Alzheimer's Research UK.

As a paramedic, I've witnessed firsthand the profound and lasting impact that Alzheimer's disease has on individuals and their families. The emotional toll and the challenges faced by those affected are immeasurable. Now, having recently graduated and currently working in the field, I am inspired to contribute to the fight against this debilitating condition.

According to the Office of National Statistics (ONS), the leading cause of death in England and Wales in 2022 was dementia and Alzheimer's disease, with 65,967 deaths (11.4% of all deaths); this percentage was higher than in 2021 (61,250 deaths, 10.4% of all deaths). This demonstrates the continuous necessity for research into finding a cure.

However, although this will be a physical and mental battle, I am not going to be attempting this challenge on my own. I will be joined by one of my best mates, Joe, who in taking on the challenge in memory of his Grandad who he sadly lost last year to Alzheimer’s and Vascular Dementia. We will be walking in memory of him and all other people who many have lost to this terrible disease.

Machu Picchu, with its awe-inspiring beauty and challenging terrains, serves as the backdrop for our journey. We're pushing our limits, enduring the steep inclines, and overcoming every obstacle in the name of a cause close to our hearts. MY goal is to raise funds for Alzheimer's Research UK, an organization dedicated to advancing research and finding a cure for this devastating illness.

Every step we take is a step towards a world without Alzheimer's. Your support means the world to us and to the countless families affected by this disease. By contributing to this JustGiving page, you're not just supporting my trek; you're joining the fight against Alzheimer's and making a meaningful impact on the lives of those affected.

Together, let's trek for memories, raise awareness, and fund vital research to bring us closer to a future where Alzheimer's is just a distant memory.

Thank you for being a part of my journey!
