Story
I have the privilege as working as the Chaplain at Fulham Cross Academy as part of my curacy. I have initiated this ambitious trip which will be life changing for all staff and students as well as the members of the communities in Malawi.
FCAT is not an affluent school with over 40% of students eligible and receiving free school meals for whom fundraising will be an uphill struggle.
In Malawi, a team of 20 from Fulham Cross Academy Trust will be building a multipurpose centre, where children with disabilities can come along to receive a nutritious meal, basic education and therapy.
Children with disabilities in the poor areas of rural Malawi have little access to healthcare, diagnosis or therapy to support their needs. Having a child with a disability means families can be stigmatised and may find it difficult to find work or support within their community. In addition to this, caring for a child with disabilities often means that one parent is unable to work or farm their land, resulting in increased financial difficulties for the family.
The charity we are supporting, The Heart of Mercy, visit families in their homes, spreading love and acceptance and reducing stigma for these children. They help support families with some therapy programmes for their children and are helping to develop income generating projects to help financially support the families.
Please give generously!
Thank you so much,
Love Briony
